Bowcaster Ammunition

By Obi Kenny One

Well, I started this project out by just simply thinking of something to build but nothing came to mind that had not been done as of yet. So I got out the SW Visual dictionary, which most people know is full of a ton of off screen parts and props that where made up just for this book. So after scanning this book for a while I came across this picture of what is described to be Bowcaster Ammunition.

Once I decided on this as my project for the Rebel Hardware Competition, I scanned the page into me computer and started scaling the pic up to what I thought would be a good size. I used PhotoShop to get approximate measurements based on what I had scaled the print up to.

I then used the measurements form this process and drew up a mechanical drawing with the help of a CAD program, so that I would have a nice clean hard copy of this part so I could take it out to the lathe and start machining.

I picked out some aluminum round stock and started making chips, thatís machinist lingo for cutting metal.

All I needed to do now was following the print I drew up while I turned the aluminum down and keep checking to see if I was close to the correct dimensions as I went along.

After making all of my lathe cuts and finish sizing cuts, I polished the pieces up a little and brought them back to my desk for final inspection with my measuring tools as compared to the print I drew up.

All that was left was to take a few more pics of the finished project. So here they are, but remember wear your safety glasses and if you donít know what you are doing you could get hurt. So donít try this at home without the proper training.

 Here is the end results:
