Parts needed:
|
| [photo 1.jpg] First step is a stop off at the local Goodwill/thrift store These are the many things I found to work with. | |
| [photo 2.jpg] But for this project we will use only two of them. The toy Binoculars and the Sub Assault game. | |
| [photo 3.jpg] First step in creation is destruction. I opened up the game and cut open the Binoculars. I removed the electronics from the game as the finished prop will be clued and putty shut they are not needed and may be used later in another prop if you like. | |
| [photo 4.jpg] The parts that will be needed is the Game and from the binoculars one main lens and housing and the two eye pieces. | |
| [photo 5.jpg] I removed the frame of the main lens and cut out the housing so that it will fit at an angle behind the lens and angle down to the body of the game. | |
| [photo 6.jpg] test fit the parts and cut/file/ or Belt Sand to fit. | |
| [photo 7.jpg] Before Gluing the main lens in place I placed a sheet of Saren wrap on the lens for protect it from the painting. I also stuck on the back of the lens a sheet of the Crome Bare-Metal film with the sticky side toward the lens. This would place the stick side toward the front. After rubbing down the film the tiny air pockets between the film and the back of the lens make it look like a sensor dish. (Sorry that this detail does not show well with my camera). The two eye pieces were ran against the Belt Sander to grove out a lip for it to fit the game better. | |
| [photo 8.jpg] Again test fit and adjust. | |
| [photo 9.jpg] Glue the eye pieces into place. You may notice that the two are not facing the same way. This makes it look like two different sensor pickups. | |
| [photo a1.jpg] Now putty all the seams and the screw holes on the bottom of the game. | |
| [photo a2.jpg] Sand and putty, and then Sand and putty, and Repeat if needed. Mostly the areas where you are placing the Foil as any defects will shine through the foil. | |
| [photo a3.jpg] Spray on the Olive Drab paint coat as the main color for the Endor look. You could use Shire for a Hoth version or even Black for a Stormtrooper set. | |
| [photo a4.jpg] Paint the Gloss Black onto the Rubber Grips and on the Eye Pieces. And the control buttons on the face plate of the game. You can also add markings to the buttons if you wish. | |
| [photo a5.jpg] Paint the Luftwaffe Gray on the grips on the eye pieces and on the 4 recessed panels on the top of the game. And the 4 bolts as well. At this point I also added the Brass paint to the lens in the two eye pieces. | |
| [photo a6.jpg] Add the Foil film to the Trim around the main housing of the game as well as to the two side plates along the rubber grips. | |
| [photo a7.jpg] Take the rubber tube and slit it down the entire length of the tube and then place it over the lip around the face plate of the game. The game looks like it was made for a cushion but this one did not have it when I got it. And I removed the plastic wrap from the main lens at this point. |
